Each household in the community of West Riding is responsible for selecting its own trash hauler, as the City of Gaithersburg does not provide for trash removal. Listed below are three local trash haulers that you can contact to arrange for household trash removal. Two compaines do offer the option of renting you a trash container with wheels. However, you can buy a trash container with wheels at Lowe’s or Home Depot and save money in the long run.
Large household items that you wish to dispose of can be placed at the curb on our community’s Bulk Pickup Day, which is any Friday of the month. You must make an appointment with the Department of Public Works for this service which is limited to once a month.
Hazardous waste items and tires will not be picked up by the City of Gaithersburg. These items must be taken to you directly to the Montgomery County Solid Waste Transfer Station. This facility is located on Route 355 in Rockville near the Shady Grove Road and Route 355 intersection.
Regular Refuse – Not collected by the City of Gaithersburg. Residents should make arrangements directly with private trash hauler.
Newspapers – Collected by the City’s recycling contractor in green recycling container on Fridays.
Mixed Paper – Collected by the City’s recycling contractor in green recycling container on Fridays.
Corrugated Cardboard – Collected by the City’s recycling contractor in green recycling container on Fridays. Flatten into pieces no larger than two feet by three feet. Large amounts of cardboard should be bundled in stacks not greater than 12 inches thick.
Recyclable Cans, Glass Containers, and Plastic Bottles – Collected by the City’s recycling contractor in green recycling container on Fridays.
Grass Clippings – Collected by the City’s recycling contractor on Fridays when placed in biodegradable brown paper bags.
Other Yard Trimmings – Collected by the City’s recycling contractor on Fridays when placed in biodegradable brown paper bags.
Brush and Branches – Collected by City’s recycling contractor on Fridays when tied in bundles and placed at the curb.

The Montgomery County Solid Waste Transfer Station is located the intersection of Shady Grove Road and Route 355. You can take household hazardous waste items to this location.

The bulk pickup program is intended to provide City of Gaithersburg residents an opportunity to remove large items from their household which private refuge companies will not accept. The City of Gaithersburg provides bulk pickup collection to residents of single family homes and townhome communities. This service is now performed On Demand and you must request an appointment for a collection.
